Drunk goggles prove a point

Isaac Bailey, left, looks to see how far off he veered while attempting to walk a straight line while wearing drunk goggles at the Volunteers In Policing booth at the Fairbanks Job Fair Tuesday afternoon, April 21, 2009 at the Carlson Center. The goggles, which simulate having a blood-alcohol level of .17-.20, were being worn by willing participants as V.I.P. coordinator July Bond, right, gave field sobriety tests. http://www.newsminer.com/photos/2009/apr/22/8560/

Several Feet Deep Pothole!?

Drivers have reported encountering a several-foot deep pothole on Bentley Access Road behind Sam’s Club in Fairbanks. The pothole is concealed by snowmelt and may not be visible to drivers. Anyone using the road, which connects College Road to the Old Steese Highway, is advised to exercise caution, as the hole is large enough to cause car damage.

Flooding occurs this time of year are you prepared?

Spring always brings the treat of rising waters from the rivers in our community. We wanted to pass along some facts about flood insurance to our valued customers.

Why should customers consider purchasing flood insurance?
1. Everyone lives in a flood zone - anywhere it rains, it can flood.

2. Flooding is not limited to coastal areas. Floods and flash floods happen in all 50 states.

3. Between 20 and 25 percent of all flooding events occur outside Special Flood Hazard Areas.

4. Most homeowners, condominium, manufactured home, renters and business insurance policies exclude losses due to flood.

5. Flooding is the most costly natural disaster in the U.S., causing more than $2 billion of property damage each year.

6. Just one inch of water can cause costly damage to your property.

7. A car can easily be carried away by just two feet of floodwater.

8. A customer's home has a 26 percent chance of being damaged by a flood during the course of a 30-year mortgage, compared to a nine percent chance of being damaged by fire.

Remember: It takes 30 days after purchase for a policy to take effect, so it's important to buy insurance before the flood waters start to rise.

Parking lot accidents

We settle more parking lot incidents than any other type. From the most seasoned drivers to the beginner. There are ways to prevent these from happening. First always pull into a parking spot that allows you to pull forward when your shopping is done. Never park were you have to back from a parking spot. Did you know if you are backing it is your FAULT!? Also take care and drive slowly through isles when finding a parking place. Last find a spot far from other cars, shopping carts and heavy traffic.

Why do I need Insurance, I'm just renting?

You may not own the building, but tenants have just as much at risk in the event of a loss. Most people do not realize that their Landlord’s Insurance will not cover to relocate a tenant, or reimburse for any damage to a tenant’s property.
Ask yourself:What if there was a fire in the building?Where will I live? How much will it cost to replace all my belongings?Protecting yourself is more affordable than most people realize. For as little as $1.50 per week we can help protect you against:FireTheftVandalismWater Damage*Liability…and more!Having renters Insurance can also provide a 5% discount on Auto Insurance.

Please call or come see us for more details.

Landlords:
Also if you have rental property we can organize some information for your tenants or give advice on how to offer this coverage. We recommend if you are a landlord to purchase renters insurance for your tenants (costs 60 dollars a year) and add to their rent. Here is a great lease agreement for Alaska https://mymail.allstate.com/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.ezlandlordforms.com/members/leasepdfviewer.aspx?to=true%26lease=743 (we suggest editing the renters insurance section to state you’ll either supply this coverage or proof must be presented annually)
